Jacoma - Malawi

This investment, completed in 2019, is managed under the Ulimi Fund - Old Mutual Malawi, alongside CDC and AgDevco as institutional shareholders. Signature acted as Fund Advisor for the Ulimi Fund until 2026.

 

Underpinned by favorable global demand for macadamia, this investment contributes to the diversification of Malawi’s export-income base and forms part of an ambition for the country to become a significant and fully integrated player in the global macadamia value chain from nursery to market.

The farm has currently 520 ha fully planted, 360 ha under development, and a further 175 ha expansion potential. Jacoma’s current operation includes a nursery and dehusking facility. 

 

In addition to core operations, the farm has developed an inclusive business model with an out-grower scheme providing market linkage, technical support, and fair offtake prices to nearly 6,000 chili, paprika, and macadamia smallholder farmers. The program includes irrigation and training, and women are well represented and positioned within it.
